How do I get "Dog first-aid" certified?

I see that a-lot of sitters are 'dog first-aid' certified. I was wondering how I can accomplish this. Thanks!

Thanks! I just bought a course tonight! Seems like it is a good one. =)

I purchased this one and am an hour into it. It comes with an app and you can break the course into segments. It looks to be about 3 hours long

Wow, wow, wow. I just had to comment again. This course was AMAZING, and extremely thorough. I took notes and I feel very enlightened. HIGHLY recommend it for every dog sitter!

Glad my suggestion worked for you Sara. Others have told me it is an excellent course and priced so well it's hard to pass up. And if I recall correctly you have access to the program for 1 year, so you can refresh your knowledge again and again

Does this course actually provide real-life certification in pet first aid and cpr, or just a certificate of completion. There is a huge difference.

Check the website

Certification of completion

Is anyone able to clarify what the difference is between a real-life certification and a certificate of completion? Ideally, I'm looking to be real-life certified but can't seem to find a course that fits the bill. Does this? https://www.pethealthacademy.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=201

Hi Charity:

You can take a class for Pet First Aid/CPR in person or online. I took my certification course at a nearby emergency animal hospital, so you might want to check out your local vet clinics and animal hospitals for course offerings. I really liked my course as I got to practice bandaging a leg, I took a dog's pulse, etc; and my instructor was the lead veterinarian at the clinic, so I (along with the rest of the class) could ask any questions I had. Obviously, I couldn't practice CPR on a live dog, but I was able to practice the bandaging, etc. on a live dog. There are a lot of online courses to choose from with varying prices, so you would have to see which offering fits your needs. My course at the clinic took about 3-4 hours and cost $60.00; and it included the certificate and a booklet that I keep with my Pet ER kit.

I just finished the UDEMY course. I broke it up over a couple of days, which was easy because of the app that it can be used with. There were several segments (32, I think), and each one was between a few and 10 minutes or so. This was great for doing in between other tasks. When I do drop-ins for cats, for example, I tend to watch something or read so that I have a self-contained activity that puts the cat at ease. Anyway, the course was VERY informative and according to the website, the New Years special price of $10 expire in a few days. $10 was an unbelievable deal and I went away feeling educated. Hope this helps :)

If anyone in Delaware reads this, I just got certified with Delaware Safety Council. It's where all the local EMT's train for when they rescue pets. The instructor was from the local shelter, Faithful Friends, and he had stuffed dogs and it was a "hands on" practice. But, I also did a google search and there were many online options. I chose the live class to get tactile learning, but it wasn't too hard to learn.

I also installed the Red Cross Pet First Aid app, and it will walk you step by step through various emergencies along with CPR for pets, and it has a good listing of poisonous plants, etc. as a helpful reference.
