My Dog Poops every time I take my girlfriend home?

When every my girlfriend comes over and I have to take her home, my 4 year old female whippet/beagle mix poops on the living room floor. Not a whole bunch and always right where you come in the front door, consistently. It's becoming so consistent that I have to either lock her in her crate or bring her with me.

Recently my girlfriend has been spending more time here, so she does it even on short store runs and such. I hate having to put her in the crate for a quick 10 minute run to the store.

So two questions: 1- Why does she do this only when I take my girlfriend somewhere? 2- How do I get her to stop doing it without putting her away in her crate?

Dogs habits change as they get older, I don't know if you have a routine but it should eliminate those issues. Like the previous comment above states, taking her out in the morning, afternoon and evening. Also, try a really long walk... At least an hour walk to change up normal routine/habits. I've potty trained puppies and older dogs by taking them on long but easy hikes.

Haven't got a clue...but maybe you could try a distraction/treat? A peanut butter Kong or treat dispensing toy(?).

Ha ha! How strange! As far as the reason as to why she does this we may never know. One thing that I can think of is the timing. Does your girlfriend come over at a specific time every day? Dogs are creatures of habit and if she is pooping at 5:02pm everyday at the same time your girlfriend gets there then it may just be her poop schedule. I would recommend taking her out to potty more often and praising her when she does. Does she give you any signal when she needs to go? My childhood dog never gave an indication that she needed to potty so we started asking her and then taking her outside. Soon she caught on that when we asked her we were giving her a command to go outside to potty and she would run to the door. I understand you feel a little guilty about putting her in her kennel when you go out however, for this particular reason she probably should be put in it until her potty habits are under control. At this point you may as well start the potty lessons over again. I know it sounds frustrating and believe me, I feel your pain. We had to do the same thing to my childhood dog. As soon as she gets up take her out, when she finishes eating take her out, before you go to bed take her out and when you leave her alone, even if it's for 10 minutes she goes in her kennel. I know it seems harsh but when kennels are used correctly (never for punishment) dogs generally love them. My dog is 9 years old and she puts herself in her kennel when she is tired or wants to be left alone and it is great for her! I highly doubt this has anything to do with her now liking your girlfriend by the way!
