dog prefers to sleep in another room?
We have an adopted dog (Lab mix, about 6 years old) who has been home with us for 3 months. When she first came home, we were having her sleep in the kids' bedrooms (mostly in one kid's room, sometimes with the others), with the doors shut (d/t room air conditioners). Sometimes in the morning, she would either bump the door to be let out or seem barky and zoomy when we let her out. Now that it's cooler out, we are letting her sleep on the sofa downstairs (or in her crate which is in the adjacent room--she can move between the two) and she seems calmer in the mornings. (We do leave our bedroom door open upstairs in case she needs us, but she doesn't seem to come upstairs).
I had read a lot that dogs prefer to sleep with their people-is it ok to let Sadie sleep alone downstairs?
Many thanks to all for your kind advice as we are newbies at this!
It's totally okay for a dog to sleep elsewhere. It's a personal choice to let the dogs into your bedroom. I have two large dogs and I've never let them sleep on my bed. They aren't even allowed in my bedroom. They don't seem to mind since that's the way it's always been :)
Of course it's OK to let her sleep downstairs. Not all dog want to sleep with their owners . Some people require their dog sleep in their beds, but not all dogs like it. My dog and I do NOT share bed, we don't sleep together. They sleep downstairs and guard the door :)
