How can I tell if a Craigslist response is a scam? ?

Hi All,

I shared my Rover profile on Craigslist a couple days ago. I received a text message around 8:20 this morning that says:

"I am in need of a experienced petsitter/Dog walker to care for our dog Papillon she is fun to be around with, If you are interested, kindly contact me for more information on ---redacted---@hotmail.com"

Does the above text sound scammy? How often do you guys run into scams? I'm pretty jaded when it comes to CL because of the plethora of housing scams in my area. I thought it sounded weird, so I responded by saying that I prefer to speak with potential clients through the rover website or over the phone.

Thanks in advance!
Octavia

I have found that any request that wants to 1) take the conversation out of Rover, or 2) is a request for someone else is a scam. I actually answered one of the emails I received and never heard anything back.

Yes. And you gave a good response.

I would not respond to any message asking me to take the conversation off Rover to personal e-mail before setting up a meet and greet. That's definitely a red flag.
