Can I have constructive feedback on my profile?

Hi everyone!

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times. As my title states, I am new to rover and was wondering if anyone could offer constructive feedback on my profile. I am going to get different pictures and more testimonials in the next couple of weeks. Does my pricing seem fair? Is it too business-like/not personable enough? Does it sound unprofessional? I'm my own worst critic when it comes to advertising myself, that's for sure.

Thanks a bunch!

I feel like we should have some kind of "new sitter" cheer! Welcome!!

You are definitely off to a great start, and it shows great commitment that you are looking for constructive feedback! I think it does sound professional enough - and it could use some more personal touches. I have some specific spots in mind -

  • Under "What Octavia would like to know about your dog", it's a great place to show the potential client that you are really interested in getting to know their pup! Don't be afraid to use examples, such as a sentence like "I would love to know if Rover has any separation anxiety so that I can be sure to give him some extra TLC and make sure we have a lot planned on the first evening of his stay." Your profile is a great start, but can be fleshed out with a lot of the personal little bits - sentences that sound like you! Potential clients LOVE hearing someone that sounds like a person they can identify with when reading a profile.

    • Under the "For you" section, I would just take out the Motley Crue part. While it is funny and I appreciated it, some people might think it was going a little far :). Besides that, a great section!

    • Under "My schedule", just for grammatical purposes, I would start this with a complete sentence - "I have a very flexible schedule..." The next sentence starts with "Depending", and I think it might be missing a few words, just an FYI!

    • Also, in your note about injectable medications, I think you meant to write "intend" instead of "intended" (I am a spellchecker, so I look out for this stuff, sorry if it's nitpicky!)

    • Pricing really depends on your area, so I would check to see what the sitters in your area have their rates set at. New sitters typically set their rates a bit lower than the more established sitters in their area. Just in general, though, it looks to be in the normal price ranges - definitely not unfair.

    • Yes, definitely try to add more pictures, that will help bulk up your profile. You are off to an awesome start, though, and the fact that you are looking for feedback shows that you are really putting effort into this! I wish you the best of luck with your sitting!!

This is exactly what I'm looking for :). None of your critiques were nitpicky at all. I want to put my best face forward and get off on the right foot with folks in my area. Thanks Sloane!

I agree with Sloane's comments. I would also suggest having someone proofread for grammar, spelling and punctuation, as I saw a few incomplete sentences. Former pro writer here, so these just jump out at me. And I would move the *explanation about IM medication to just follow that sentence. It got lost since there was a lot of text in between.

When I read your profile as a prospective client, I'm a bit confused. You talk about working at home and mention 'in my home or yours' and giving the dog some quiet downtime. Yet you only list rates for house sitting, drop in visits and walking. Tailor your profile to highlight your actual services and what you will be doing. Also, it's unclear if you currently own a dog/pet. Mention that in your profile if you do and how they get along with other dogs.

Otherwise, good start!

Thanks Carrie. I think I fixed the glaring errors. Proofing will have to wait until I am home from my latest pet sitting excursion :)
