Can I ask clients for their dogs proof of vaccination records?

I would like to ask all of my new clients this, but I'm not sure if it's something done on here or not?

Yes, of course, you can. Many sitters here, including myself, request those records. These days it is very easy to get copies from vets; some places have online access for their clients. Moreover, by asking for those records, it does show new customers the standards you maintain and they should feel confident leaving their dog with you. Remember, every sitters establishes the rules under which he or she runs their business.

I always do. I just want to make sure the dog is not leaving behind any germs. Also, on walks they may come in contact with other dogs or animals and I want to make sure my client dog is protected. I ask them to bring the records to the M&G.

I always do. Also I always ask the Name of the flea preventative their on. If you just ask "are they on flea preventative" they will say yes. If you ask "what flea prev. are they on" they will be forced to either admit they are not on any or tell you the name.

Good point. I hadn't even thought to ask about flea treatments.

Thank you Cari! and thank you Kay, thats such a good idea about the flea preventative, thank you!

Always ask owners to provide proof of vaccination especially bordatella and of flea/tick/heartworm treatment. I did not do this (because I assumed Rover vetted the dogs just like we were vetted), and my dog ended up sick. Other dogs in my care were also exposed, and I had to cancel several bookings as a result.
