When staying in someones home for a dog boarding, how often are you expected to be there? 24/7?

I'm only asking because I have a part time job, so if someone wants to book me I can stay overnight and for most of the day but for a few (4-7) hrs I would have to leave. In this case I have to work 4 out of a 10 day stay.

It all depends on the client. I have done several house sitting assignments, and I always ask what the client expectations are. I ask if the dog is ok with being left alone for a period of time (never more than 2 hours), is it crated during that time, etc. So far it hasn't been a problem. One client works so their dogs are used to being outside all day, and one client works from home but said she does leave for errands, dates, etc.

I would definitely list your availability in your profile so that potential clients are aware of it. And if someone sends you a request, include your schedule/availability in the return message even before setting a M&G. I would say something like, "I work 4 hours per day on X, Y, and Z days. I would be available the rest of the time you requested. If this is acceptable, I would like to schedule a meeting to ensure I am the best sitter for Fido." then suggest times and dates depending on your availability.

You may want to read this recent post and also search overnight or house sitting on the sitter-to-sitter section. https://www.rover.com/community/quest... As you can see, Karen's answer is the most up-voted, as she shared the expectation based on Rover's definitions.

However, there may be clients whose needs work with your availability. I'd recommend you explain what you can offer in your profile, again ensure the client understands/agrees to it during the meet & greet, and reference it in the booking.

Great answer from Cari!

Definitely include on your profile that you work part-time and are able to spend most of the day, minus those hours, with their pet. There is also a place on your profile where you indicate how often you are able to provide potty breaks.

Before setting up a meet and greet, let a client that requests house-sitting know what your schedule will look like over those days (if you know). If they seem ok with the arrangement, ask what their needs and expectations are for the booking and be honest with them on whether or not you can accommodate that.
