Hi, Sharla,

The people on this forum are not Rover employees. We are all sitters and answer questions to the best of our ability through our own experience. Mary's answer was spot on, but I wanted to make sure you knew.

Hi Sharla:

I know how you feel...I felt the same way when becoming a sitter. But like with any other job, you are identified with your SS# for background checks, etc. So it's nothing we can really escape. There is always a risk of getting your identity stolen no matter what you do in life....going to the grocery store, attending school, going to the hospital/doctor appointments, paying taxes, etc. So it is really up to you and your gut instinct whether you want to risk putting your SS# out there (yet again). I took a few days to hem and haw over my decision, and I'm glad that I decided to go forward with becoming a sitter. Pet sitting is all I do now (not all through Rover) and it has drastically improved my life!

When you submit your social security number, you're giving it to the background check processor, not Rover directly. They don't store your number, it goes directly to Checkr, the processing company.
