My dog "digs" in her water bowl when she's excited and makes a huge mess. Anyone solve this issue?

If she's getting excited or in a playful mood you could try redirecting her excitement to something else for example a frozen food stuffed toy or a favorite blanket (that's my dog's go-to thing). In the short term, I'd suggest you could get a no-spill bowl that would make it more difficult for her to dig into.

Is she a puppy? Mine did the same thing everywhere we went, and inside our apartment. She told her no, but she just grew out of it after a week or two. Best of luck!

My Shepherd did this when he was a puppy. We put the water bowl up off the floor (where he could still reach it to drink) and that solved the problem.

We had a puppy stay with us recently who did the same thing. What worked (like a charm!) for us was keeping an inch or less of water in the bowl. We put out several bowls, so there was still plenty to drink, but less water = less fun!

We have a Golden that liked to do this as well when she got excited. We bought one of those plastic dishpans the size of your kitchen sink at Walmart, and put her bowl inside that, then put a nonskid bathroom rug under it all, to protect the flooring. That seemed to help quite a bit. Of course, it could just be that she's older now and outgrew it on her own. Good luck!

Whenever she is about to to dig in the water call her over to you or just simply pick the bowl up. Never ever yell at a dog or hit them because they will not learn anything if you do so.

Sometimes dogs will do this if they're hot as well. Does she do it after walks or after being outside? Just something to consider ( by the way, her mix sound super cute!)

You all are morons....use a rabbit sized water bottle....there are even bigger sizes if you look for them OR continue restricting water or not providing enough water for them to hydrate themselves when they need, sounds like a much better idea...and is certainly a more convenient approach given your nightmare of circumstances. Essentially, the dog suffers because you lack problem solving skills, Unbelievable!
