Thanks to all that press, not only does Sniffles have a chance at a forever home, but his shocking story as a Puerto Rican street dog has come to light, as well.

Just over a year ago, Sniffles—or Otto, as he was known in his previous life—had been wandering the streets of Hatillo, Puerto Rico, and was attacked by a pack of dogs, which left him with severe facial injuries. Rabito Kontento, a local non-profit, picked Sniffles up and was prepared to foot the bill for the series of surgeries necessary to ensure a long and happy life for the dog.

Hurricane Maria struck at just the wrong time, delaying the urgently needed care, but Sniffles weathered the storm and received three surgeries to fix up his face, nasal passages, and palate.
Before the surgery
After recovering from the surgery, Sniffles was adopted out to the United States, where it was hoped that he would have ongoing access to high-quality health care. Unfortunately, Sniffles never settled into his new home and tried to recreate his street dog life in Orlando, Florida.
