Owning a dog in London doesn’t come without its headaches; tube escalators, toilet ‘facilities’ and of course, trying to find dog-friendly cafes and restaurants can be tricky. It’s not often obvious if a cafe or restaurant will welcome your dog, or if you’ll be quickly ushered out the door by a disgruntled staff member. To save you the frustration, we’ve pulled together a bunch of our favourite dog-friendly places in London where you can grab a coffee (and a bowl of water for Penelope).
Address: 140 St. John’s Hill SW11 1SL
Fancy a spot of brunch and a specialty coffee? Ben’s Canteen is just a few minutes’ walk from Clapham Junction station and serves weekend brunch until 5 p.m., which is just enough time to let the hangover fade away. They offer free doggy treats and water bowls, and the staff are keen to provide bonus ear scratches and cuddles.
2. George Club
Address: 87-88 Mount St, W1K 2SR
Unsurprisingly, Mayfair hosts the only dog-friendly private members club in London, George Club. With the chance to dine alongside Bert the Border terrier and Yasmin Le Bon’s pug, your dog will feel like canine royalty as you sip on your latte. With a lengthy waiting list and strict dress code, this isn’t a just a place to ‘pop in’ for coffee.
Address: Inside the park, W8 6LU
With summer hopefully on its way, you may fancy a jaunt over to leafy Holland Park where you can refuel in Holland Park Café. It’s open all year round, offers homemade seasonal favourites, and usually has a 1:1 ratio of people and dogs. A well-made Americano and lush greenery, what’s not to love?
Address: 5 locations around London
Despite their ubiquity, coffee shop chains rarely let dogs through the doors. However, Harris & Hoole happily accept dog owners in need of a caffeine boost. And with a large selection of brewing methods, rotated guest beans, and single estate loose leaf teas, coffee enthusiasts will be right at home.
5. Fox & Grapes
Address: 9 Camp road SW19 4UN
Ranked one of the top gastro pubs in the UK, the Fox & Grapes in Wimbledon Common is an ideal place to head for Sunday roast or a quick cup of Joe. The pub uses independent suppliers to create their classic British dishes, and this dog-friendly pub is a great weekend option.
