Edinburgh is a lovely spot to take your dog out for a walk or a nice game of fetch in, but when you’ve both had enough of running around the capital, why not pop into a cafe together for a lovely cup of coffee (and some water for little Pickles)? Here are a few of our favourite dog-friendly coffee shops in Edinburgh.
Address: 19 Blair St, EH1 1QR
Situated in the heart of Edinburgh, The City Cafe has been popular with locals since opening its doors in the ’80s. They’re known for their friendly staff, excellent value for money, and a relaxed atmosphere. Dogs and families are welcome, and water bowls are available on request. The perfect place to top up your caffeine levels and rehydrate!
Address: 2 Polwarth Crescent EH11 1HW
This lovely little neighbourhood spot is a cosy and charming independent cafe. Serving infamous brunches and excellent coffee, Piece Box is always busy. Not only are man’s best friends welcome, but the staff also reward good behaviour with sausages—if only it were the same for humans. It’s a hard place to leave.
Address: 16 Bank Street, EH1 2LN
You’ll find the Zebra Coffee Company at the very top of The Mound, just off the Royal Mile. This exotically-named cafe offers several breakfast and lunch options daily, and the coffee is brilliant. Roasted by a local supplier, Artisan Roast, the coffee is smooth and strong. Dog people themselves, they welcome all breeds—does that include Zebras?
4. Café Braw
Address: 54 Belford Road, EH4 3BR
Cafe Braw is slightly off the beaten track but well worth the detour. Close to the river and in a sunny spot, this place offers stunning views as well as quality food and coffee. They make all their food fresh daily, and the home-baked scones are a highlight. This dog-friendly spot is perfect for afternoon tea…ahem, coffee!
5. Manna House
Address: 22 – 24 Easter Road, EH7 5RG
Who can resist the smell of freshly baked bread and aroma of perfectly brewed coffee? Since 2005, Drew Massey and his team have been baking seven days a week to offer Edinburgh the tastiest breads and pastries. With a terrific brunch menu, free WiFi, and strong coffee, Manna House is a must. Dogs and children are welcome of course—how handy!
Address: 40 – 42 Queen Charlotte Street, EH6 6AT
As the name suggests, the Hideout Cafe is perfect for losing the crowds, enjoying a cuppa, and watching the world pass you by. The interior is bright and airy with loads of light and cosy corners. These guys offer free Wifi and locally roasted coffee made to perfection. The sandwiches and cakes may tempt you as well!
