There’s just something about a fluffy little lapdog that makes my heart smile. Don’t get me wrong, I am a firm believer that all dogs are perfect angels, but a serious floof will stop me in my tracks.
There are a wide variety of breeds that will bowl you over with their sweet faces and their gorgeous, thick coats. From lap dogs to active little dudes, there’s a small floof for everyone. Let’s take a look at some of the most adorable fluffy breeds.
Poms are known for their intelligent, outgoing personalities. I am a fan of their big, fluffy bums.
A little too active to be called a lap dog, Pomeranians are smart, easily trained, and loads of fun. Poms are great companions, as long as you don’t mind brushing that beautiful double coat every day.

Well, hello to you, too! These floofs need a lot of love and attention, but honestly, I can’t imagine being able to leave this dog alone. LOOK AT THIS FACE.
Maltese are a lot of work: they’re notoriously difficult to housebreak, prone to separation anxiety, not great with kids, and require a lot of grooming. On the plus side, they are sweet, smart, and, as you can see, adorable. If you have the time and energy for them, this is a breed that inspires a lot of loyalty.
These wiry lil’ angels are spunky, loyal watchdogs. They tend to bark a lot, which, like any trait, can be a plus or minus. They require less grooming than some of the other breeds on this list, but still have a delightfully fluffy face.
4. Shih Tzu
Shih Tzu are sturdier, friendlier, and less yappy than many other toy breeds, but they’re also very difficult to house train. While they’re not hypoallergenic and require a fair amount of grooming, they do shed less than most floofs. And their squishy face, while really cute, can cause major health probs. But on the other hand…
The cool thing about Labradoodles is that they come in all different sizes, depending on what size poodle the Lab is bred with. They’re hypoallergenic, friendly, smart and frickin’ adorable.
“What if a dog were a Siberian Husky, but also a tiny adorable floof?” asked some brilliant person, and lo and behold, the Pomsky was born. This is a pretty new hybrid, so there isn’t a lot of consensus on the features of the breed, but I think we can all agree that they are really bloomin’ cute.

Havanese are a close relative of Maltese dogs, but are smaller, sturdier, and typically healthier. They get along well with their human and animal pack, but can be wary of strangers, making them good watchdogs. And they have fluffy little bums.
8. Cavalier King Charles
More athletic than other small breeds due to their spaniel heritage, this is a sweet and active little dog. They’re friendly with other dogs and with humans, but need a lot of socialisation to keep them from being timid. Also, they shed a lot! But who wouldn’t want to brush that silky coat every day?
Another relative of Maltese and Havanese, some breeders say these are the smartest and healthiest of the bunch, which may be why they are also the hardest to get. Be ready to endure a long waiting list for a Bolognese puppy. But clearly, they are worth the wait.
Rounding off the list, we have one of the more active small dogs. Ultra-curious and alert, Schipperkes make great watch dogs. They’re not quite as fluffy as the other dogs, but with their sweet, foxy face and their luscious black coat, they’re sure to win your heart.
As you can see, the world of small fluffy dogs is as full of variety as it is of fur. Hope you got your floof fix for the day! And remember, if you have to be away from your little fluffball for whatever reason, you can always find a loving dog sitter who’ll be happy to dole out cuddles on Rover.com.
