At 11 years old, Charlie the golden retriever recently lost his eyes to glaucoma. In response, his family did the best thing to boost his spirits. The Stipes brought home Maverick, a 4-month-old golden retriever puppy, to be Charlie’s seeing-eye dog and best friend.
Meet Charlie and Maverick
At first, Charlie wasn’t sure what to think of the energetic young pup, but Maverick quickly adjusted his behavior once he realized Charlie could not see.
When playing with a toy, Maverick will fetch the toy if Charlie loses track of it.
On walks, Maverick sticks close to Charlie to keep him steered on the right track.
And when they lie down to sleep, Maverick is Charlie’s pillow— never out of reach of his new best friend.
In just a week, Charlie and Maverick have racked up over 89,000 Instagram followers, thanks to a super-cute feature on The Today Show.
