When Michael Reeg’s position moved to a work-from-home situation, it felt a little too quiet and lonely at first. The district sales director began to rely on the company of his dog Meeka for moral support and companionship.
“Transitioning to a home-based position was quite a change,” Reeg told The Dodo. “It’s quiet here. You need to get yourself fired up and excited about the day. Having a faithful companion in the office certainly helps.” Meeka patiently worked through customer solutions with Michael, listened intently to his sales pitches, and never missed a single day at the office, even when Michael was out of town.
Celebrating excellence
Michael decided to award Meeka the employee of the quarter for his team, and made it official with the head office in California. His company, Accuride, fully supports Meeka’s quarterly honors, and understand that a good dog is a huge benefit to their southeastern sales team.
Team work makes the dream work
Meeka has since won the award every quarter this year, and is a shoe-in for the next. The family’s second dog Kya makes frequent appearances in the office, but hasn’t shown the dedication to the team that Meeka has.
“I haven’t decided yet if the prestige is going to her head, or if Kya feels disgruntled,” says Reeg. “Maybe a change is needed for one quarter, so that Meeka doesn’t feel entitled. I want her to stay sharp.”
