Baking Soda Paw Print Ornament

This alternative to salt dough is for pet parents who don’t have enough flour or salt at home (or don’t want to use it as you need it for cooking). Or maybe you don’t want to turn on the oven! Either reasoning is valid, which is why we’re including this overnight recipe for you.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of baking soda
  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 1/4 cup of water

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients into a sauce pan. Then stir in water.
  2. On medium heat, stir the mixture as it begins to thicken. Keep stirring, making sure you scrap the bottom of the pot to avoid burning or sticking.
  3. Once a ball of dough forms, take the pan off heat and allow it to cool (about one hour).
  4. Once it’s cool to the touch, roll it out to your desired thickness.
  5. Take your pet’s paw and firmly press it gently into the dough. Give their paw a little wiggle, if they let you to really get their print.
  6. Cut dough out using cookie cutters or a cup.
  7. Let them dry for at least 24 hours. You can also bake them at 325°F for 25-30 minutes but you run the risk of browning them and changing the color.
