The weather outside is frightful, but dog sweaters are so delightful! However, getting the sweater on the dog—that can seem like a bit of a Christmas miracle. Wondering how to put a dog in a sweater? Read on for how it worked for me, and check out Rover’s handy video guide below for more step-by-step pointers.

Oh, and if you’re looking for a good dog sweater, check out our guide to cozy human and dog matching sweaters, and this article about finding the best winter clothes for your dog.

How to Put a Dog in a Sweater: Featuring Noodles and Edison

1. Select the outfit.

Originally chose this sweater but when Edison was so eager to wear one, too, I went for matching sweaters.

5. Get ready for a close-up. Aaah—too close. A little too close.

8. Tempt the dog with treats.

10. Get better treats.

11. Get the dog’s head through the sweater, leading them through the neck hole with a treat.
