Wesley the Golden Retriever recently gained internet fame when his beautiful “brace-face” smile went viral. Pictures posted to the veterinarian’s Facebook page of the orthodontic procedure stole the hearts of everyone who saw him, and brought worldwide attention to the realm of dog orthodontics—a field unknown to most dog lovers.
Braces for dogs are used to help when adult teeth prevent the dog from fully closing his mouth, or when they make it hard to chew food. In other words, they’re not just used to produce a dazzling straight smile. Poorly placed teeth can also jab into the roof of the mouth, causing pain and sinus problems. A more common practice is to have teeth strategically removed or filed down to make space in a crowded mouth and avoid painful chewing.
These 12 pups don’t have braces—but might benefit from some. They’re adorable regardless! What do you think? Dog braces: yes or no?
