The stork must have been a little busy the day an eagle dropped the world’s cutest dingo cub in a woman’s backyard in Australia.

After hearing the cries of an animal in distress in her backyard, a woman in Wandiligong, Victoria, Australia, rushed to find what she thought was a lost puppy.

Playtime!

My surrogate sister and I had a great time playing in the spring sunshine when I had been at the sanctuary only a few weeks! #dingo #dingoesofinstagram #canisdingo #savethedingo #alpinedingo #conservation #rewilding #coexistence #creatingawareness #savingspecies #protectingnature #threatenedspecies #wildlifeconservation #australiannative #australianwildlife #natureinspires #naturelovers #melbswest #dyobmelbourne #melbournenotes #visitmelbourne #meltoncitymuchmore #wandervictoria #animalencounter

After she posted the adorable puppy on Facebook, followers urged her to take him to the veterinarian for care. The doctors treated the 4 to 5-week old baby’s wounds, which looked like those left by an eagle.

Here I am with one of my caretakers at the @dingodiscovery when I was a young cub. He also runs this Instagram account for me. I have him well trained. #dingo #dingoesofinstagram #canisdingo #savethedingo #alpinedingo #conservation #rewilding #coexistence #creatingawareness #savingspecies #protectingnature #threatenedspecies #wildlifeconservation #australiannative #australianwildlife #natureinspires #naturelovers #melbswest #dyobmelbourne #melbournenotes #visitmelbourne #meltoncitymuchmore #wandervictoria #animalencounter

Then the lucky pup, named Wandi, was given a DNA test.

Not only did the test show Wandi to be 100% dingo, but it also revealed that he’s one of the rarest subgroups—an Alpine dingo.

The camera loves Wandi!

Purebred dingos are becoming a rarity in the wild because of interbreeding with domestic dogs.
