Silas the pit bull terrier mix was born deaf— but it doesn’t get him down in the slightest!
His dad Sean, who adopted Silas and his brother Gus from Zeus’ Rescues in New Orleans, taught Silas hand signals using treats and love. He says it was “way easier than you’d think.”
Deaf Dog’s Joyful Reaction to Walk Sign
Sean recently shared the answers to some of the most frequent questions he gets. The biggest one is: does Silas have a regular bark? Seans says Silas’ bark sounds perfectly normal—and that he is asked about it every day.
Silas always sleeps with one paw touching his best friend Gus, the pit/boxer mix, so he knows if anything’s up.

How do you call a deaf dog if he can’t see you?
Sean shares, “if Silas isn’t in the room, I can call him by stomping on the floor or flicking light switches. He quickly comes to investigate.” Pretty smart.
He adds that “Gus and Silas are the best thing that’s happened to me. PLEASE adopt!”
Right on, Sean. You are truly one of the dog people.
