I would love to take care of your dachshund. I've raised several dachshunds to old ages and have seen it all:
1) Their blanket management techniques
2) Their stubborn and wonderful sense of humor
3) Their tendencies to wolf down their food
4) Understand their independent, clever nature
5) I can handle dogs who are in a bad mood
6) Will make sure they are happy, healthy and loved while I'm caring for them
Having been a dachshund mom since the 1970s, I have a lot of experience with this breed. I've nursed them back to health from back surgery; taken them to medical / alternative health appointments for minor and major illnesses and have had the most fun with them as a person can have. I have had 3 large standards, babysat for a mini, and currently have a "tweenie." My love for the breed is enormous and I will go to any length to keep them safe and happy.
I've been a dog lover since the age of 10--initially we had a Bassett Hound, but then I've had dachshunds for the rest of the time and will always have one or more in my care. I've also cared for and lived with an Irish Setter and other large breeds, but am mostly focused on dachshunds. I have behavior trained them, keep them exercised, feed them top quality food and love to play with them. They have stolen my heart for good.
I would like to know about his/her personality; likes and dislikes; medical problems if any; food preferences and whether they need help with certain issues (housebreaking, walking on lead, etc). I also like to know whether they are loners or like to be more social.
Yes, my car is in good repair.
Absolutely comfortable and have done so on frequent occasion.
Age: 10 years old
Weight: 16 lbs.
Breed: Dachshund
Elkie is an intelligent, clever tweenie dachshund who was a rescue. I've had her since 2006 and have found her to be a delightful companion. She has me wrapped around her little black fingernail.
She was the companion of my elderly dachshund, Phoebe, who sadly passed away after 16 years in 2008.
Elkie is a delight to be around and has tremendous hunting instincts (especially for squirrels), but I never let her actually catch them.
