Description:

I have a 2 bedroom townhome in the Old Mill district. I live on a corner lot with a fenced in and
plently of area for dogs to hang out.
My house is dog freindly and dog safe. I treat your dog with the same loving care that I do my 5yr. old Labradoodle named Fanny.
Fanny loves having company. Fanny gets 2 walks a day. Depending on your dogs age and exercise needs, I offer 2 walks or hikes a day.
I have room for crates or allow dogs to sleep
on couches . Many of Fanny's furry freinds have slept with us.

About Susan R.:

I recently moved to Bend with my dog Fanny to be with family and enjoy all that Bend has to offer an active senior.
My goal is to spend lots of time outdoors with Fanny - hiking, kayaking, snow shoeing etc.
Being retired, I can offer dog owners a place they can leave their pets, knowing they will get the same exercise and attention that they get at home.

How long have you been a dog lover? Tell us about your history with dogs.

I have beena dog lover since I was a toddler. We had a black lab, a poodle, and
a small rescue mix breed dog , at different times. I always wanted my own dog,
had to wait till I semi-retired to adopt my labradoodle, Fanny.
Back home in Michigan, I took care of and boarded dogs whom owners I new,
loved doing it, Fanny was thrilled with the company and I made a little money.
Fanny is almost 5, I have had 5 years of experience taking care of Fanny and
other dogs at my house. I took Lucy Young into my home and other dogs
when the owners went away. Depending on their exercise needs, I take the
boarders on hikes with us. I have a fenced in yard for exercise and fresh air at home.

What would you like to know about a dog before sitting him or her? Do you have any breed preferences?

Number 1, I would want to make sure the dog is a good fit for my home and Fanny. I would want to know what type exercise and playtime the dog needs,
what type of diet the dog is on, any allergies, how the dog gets along with others if taking the dog on hikes will be part of the daily regime. I need to have contact information, vet information, medication instructions, feeding times and amounts, medical history- Breed preference is not an issue- it is
the temperment of the dog. Fanny is energetic but very relaxed. She is not aggressive, has an overabundance of safe toys and loves to share. I would expect the same from dogs that stay here.

Do you have reliable transportation in the event of an emergency?

Yes. I have a 2010 Subaru Impreza. I am within a mile from the animal emergency center-5 blocks from a animal hospital.

Are you comfortable administering medication?

Yes-as long as specific and correct instructions are left with me.
I

How much time do you plan on spending with my dog each day?

If a dog wishes, they can sleep with us. I have plenty of room for dogs beds also. Fanny gets 2 walks a day- each for 1-1/2 hrs. with playtime before bed.
I accomodate the dogs needs for interaction.

If you have a backyard, please describe it.

I live in a townhouse in the Old Mill area, on the corner-have a great fenced in yard. The back is accessible from a door wall and the room leading to the garage walkway. I have grassed areas to play in.

Where will my dog sleep?

That would depend on the dog. Smaller dogs and slept in my bed. I have dog
beds in my room, and the loft area outside of my room-many dogs have chosen to sleep there because of the views of the outside.
There is room for beds, Fanny has one in the Kitchen-Lounge area.

Where will you take my dog on walks? Tell me about it.

I take dogs on leash on the river trail starting from Farwell Bend park.
There are other areas to walk close by the Old mill along the river.
Where depends on weather and the dogs needs. My neighborhood is a great place to walk also.

We were so impressed with Susan and her Old Mill Retreat! Susan was very accommodating to our needs and the dogs were happy and tired when we took them home. Her place was the perfect place for people visiting Bend and wanting to leave the dogs in a safe place while we kayaked and hiked. We will use her again and I recommend her to anyone who would like their dogs spoiled!
I was nervous to leave my very old dog, Lola, away from home for a week. But after meeting Susie and her pal, Fanny, I knew Lola was about to have a wonderful vacation. And she did. Susie took great care of Lola - walks, naps, treats, everything that she needed. Lola was calm and completely at home when I picked her up. My shy dog even walked up to Susie and licked her hand. She does not do that to just anyone! I would not hesitate to leave Lola in Susie's care again. I highly recommend the Old Mill Pet Retreat. (Collapse)

Sammi misses her friends when we don't see them for awhile...... no better care anywhere or by anyone!

We left Toby, our Airedale, in Suzie's care while we took a short vacation down to California. It was the first time we had left him with her and we were a little nervous about how he would react. Turns out there was no need for concern. Suzie had no problem handling him and following our somewhat complex set of instructions for his food and meds. He got lots of exercise on walks along the river and plenty of companionship with the other dogs, including Suzie's Labradoodle, Fanny. We are very pleased with the care and love that Suzie demonstrated for our Toby and will certainly plan on taking him there again when we need to go out of town. Don Anderson (Collapse)

Our dog Sammi loves Susan and Fanny! She now gets so excited when she knows we are taking her there! Susan takes exemplary care of her, and Fanny is a great hostess! It was so nice to take a trip and not worry about her care! We know she is safe and happy and makes our trips better because of that! We miss her, but knowing she is in such good hands it is ok... Thank you Susan and Fanny! (Collapse)

Susie was fabulous for our dog while we were away. Their days were packed full of activity because our dog is high energy and loves to exercise. Susie also made sure our dog got plenty of interaction with other dogs, in addition to play time with her own sweet dog, Fanny. I was super nervous to leave Isa but everything was perfect. I will absolutely be using Old Mill Pet Retreat in the future. We are so glad to have met Susie and Fanny and I'm sure we'll be having dog walks in the future as well. Thank you Susie & Fanny for sharing your home. (Collapse)

Susie is an excellent dog sitter and it's true, my dog is her dog. Gracey loves it there. Give her the highest rating. Mary Fay

Susie and her dog Fanny were excellent hosts to my two chocolate labs! She took the two of them over the holidays and didn't watch any other dogs - so all her attention was focused on my boys. She happily accepted all of my elaborate instructions for their care and proactively asked questions to make sure she was totally prepared. She invited my dogs and I to her home for a pre-visit so we could all feel more comfortable on drop-off day. While I was away, Susie texted me every single day with updates on how they were doing - photos, too! My dogs were happy and healthy upon their return home. I plan to contact Susie again when I go on vacation...you should too! (Collapse)

Susie is the pied piper of dogs. My little Avi would follow her anywhere. She took care of Avi while I was away several times; and he was always very happy & excited when I dropped him off at her house. A+
