About Rita K.:

My name is Gina (Rita Regina King) originally from south Georgia, raised on a farm and always surrounded by dogs. I have spent my life caring for dogs, but did not have the stomach to do veterinary work, so I did the second best thing, pet sitting. I have worked with individuals and in doggie hotels learning the importance of giving lots of attention to your dog. I am a huge animal advocate and spend my free time volunteering and fostering for those animals less fortunate. I also share my knowledge of diet and basic training to those who need assistance. I have a huge heart for the older dogs and have first hand experience and patience needed to attend to the needs of a senior dog. I am great with puppies, also, and have the love and tolerance to show your puppy how to become a great dog. Regardless of age, your dog will be in great hands.

Rita K.'s Experience:

I spend my free time educating myself on the different breeds of dogs. I also study plant life and know what is dangerous to dogs, so those plants are not in my house or yard. I am familiar with many health issues dogs can have, especially in their senior years, and know how to handle those conditions. Working over the years I have gained knowledge in all of these areas allowing me to be a better sitter for you and your dog because not only do I love animals, but I care for their well being. Diet, exercise and consistency in training ensure our pets will live a happy and long life. Riley was over weight when I first brought him home and with a good diet and plenty of exercise he is at a healthy ideal weight of 100 lbs. Dogs can develop diabetes, bad joints and other serious health problems, just like us. Knowing how to prevent these issues or over come is very important to me and I would love to share this information. And if I don't know, I will find out, after all this is the age of information.

How long have you been a dog lover? Tell us about your history with dogs.

I have been a dog lover since birth. My true love came when she was 5 weeks old and I named her Miah and we hit the road for the next 17 years and found our home in Vegas. During her senior years, I had to prepare foods for her and learned all about pet nutrition and love to share what I have learned with others. She was laid to rest 5/2012, but not before showing me the true meaning of unconditional love. I have such a passion for all dogs, I decided to do pet sitting, so I would have the pleasure of having all breeds without owning all breeds. I have experience with individuals and working in doggie hotels. I branched on my own 3 years ago working with other people, besides family, friends and neighbors, which I have sat for since I was a little girl. I have never looked back or wanted to do anything else. A home is not a home without a dog.

What would you like to know about a dog before sitting him or her? Do you have any breed preferences?

The only things I need to know are any health conditions/medications, favorite toys/games and amount/type of food. It is important to know they are up to date with shots. I will consider a puppy, but it would be more money as they are not updated and need special attention. And I offer discounts for the senior dogs.
I have self taught myself about the health issues, nutrition and different breeds for dogs. If there is a breed I am not familiar with, I do a quick study to learn the quirks of their personality. All dogs are different and it is important to understand their breed, what they might be susceptible to for health issues and what they are breed for, i.e. hunting, entertainment.

Do you have reliable transportation in the event of an emergency?

I have reliable transportation, which is a Volvo.

Are you comfortable administering medication?

I have no problem administrating medications of any kind. I have no problem with administrating medications of any kind to a dog, without having to use force. I learned a lot working in the doggie hotels and became very familiar with different medications and the importance of them. I don't do anal glands, but I do have a groomer who does this for me.

Are you willing to do additional tasks at my home while I'm away
(e.g., water plants, bring in the mail)?

I am a personal assistant/house keeper, also, so doing errands, watering plants, taking the trash out, bringing in the mail, signing for packages, light or detailed cleaning and other jobs you may have, I am quite capable of doing.

How much time do you plan on spending with my dog each day?

I will spend as much time as your dog and you want. I offer visits and over night, which includes a 24 service.

Riley

Age: 3 years, 3 mo. old
Weight: 100 lbs.
Breed: Labrador Retriever

Riley is a chocolate lab who loves having friends go on hikes with him. He came into my life 4/2012, when I was doing some fostering for the Animal Foundation. He was suppose to be adopted through an event called 'Best in Show,' but didn't show his best, lol. I went back to the shelter to adopt him and was going to find him a home through my own networks, but ended up keeping him because he is just too sweet and I couldn't stop kissing his ears and he knew he had already found his forever home with me.
Riley was over weight (116) and had no idea how to walk properly on a leash. Today he is a walking standard to all others and a true testimony of what time and patience can do when invested and is at a healthy 98lbs.

Hi, I am the owner of a doggie daycare and homestyle boarding center in South Lake Tahoe. Rita had worked for me for almost 1 year. She is honest, caring and very responsible. She watched 30 dogs at one time and always was attentive to their needs and she really loved them all. From time to time, we would have requests for in home stays and I would not hesitate to call on Rita to take on this special request because of her dedication. I know you do not know who I am, but if you want to check me out - www.tahoebestfriends.com or call me at my office (530) 543 1903. I would have Rita stay with my 4 pups without any hestiation. That is the best recommendation I can offer - my personal trust in her. thank you . Paige Rice, owner of Tahoe Best Friends. (Collapse)

I have known Gina for over six years and have observed her caring for her pets, espcially her Lab Miah. Gina took such good care of Miah with good nutrition and exercise. Miah lived well beyond the normal lifespan of Labs. They had an amazing bond. Gina is committed to animal rights causes and the humane treatment of all animals. She is very good with animals and I could relax when she was taking care of my dog Heidi. Heidi immediately took to Gina which was unusual because up to that point she was a one person dog only warming up to me until that point. I have never known anyone with as much empathy for animals and that animals in return respond and relate to her. She is very dependable and conscientious in the care of animals and has good knowledge of nutrition and health issues with pets. I wholeheartedly recommend her in the professional care and treatment of animals ! (Collapse)

Gina is an exceptional person to watch your pets! She is very nice, trustworthy, and dependable. She would often take pictures of my dog when they were out having fun and send them to me. It brightened my day at work! I definitely recommend Gina to anyone looking for a dog walker or a pet sitter.

I have never known anyone that loves animals more. It wouldn't be too much to say she relates to animals more than people. They love her! She's honest, caring and very responsible. I have known her all my life and can vouch for her experience and character. Your animals will be in the best hands.

I have known Rita for 4 years. She has taken care of both my dogs in Lake Tahoe and again in Las Vegas. She has the biggest heart I've ever felt and cares so much about our precious babies. When I lost Charli (of 12 years) Rita was one of the first phone calls I made and she was at my place in 10 minutes. I've seen her with Labs, Terriers, Pit Bulls, Rotweillers and Whippets. Rita is so knowledgeable about any breed and if she's not; trust me...she will do her homework! Prudie (Collapse)

I first met Rita while working together in South Lake Tahoe, CA. We quickly got to know one another, and bonded over our mutual love for animals. Rita also quickly became my go-to person for doggie care. I flew back to the East Coast many times to visit family, and she was the first and only person I asked to watch my dog Kai. He is a 90ish pound German Shepard mix, my big baby. It's always difficult to leave him behind, but Rita would send me pictures of all the adventures she took Kai on while I was away, which was comforting. He loves hiking as much as Rita does, and she would always indulge him in many outdoor adventures while I was away. She loved him like her own dog and I never once worried about the care he was receiving while I was away, sometimes for up to 10+ days. At various times she even stayed with him at my house so he could feel more comfortable on those longer trips that I took. At some point during our doggie relationship, I got another dog. Maci was a pit-bull mix rescue, and a bit of a handful, especially at the beginning. Rita, always up for a challenge, welcomed Maci with open arms and took care of her along with Kai when I was out of town. It was a sad day when we both moved from Lake Tahoe, and I no longer have someone like Rita who will love my pets as I do. It's a hard thing to find someone with as much passion about animals as she has, and I consider myself lucky to have had that relationship while I did! (Collapse)

I've known Rita for over fifteen years. I am also witness to her love, care and dedication to animals of all kinds, especially dogs. She has an uncanny ability to relate to them in many ways. She just 'knows'. I was tbe owner of a pitbull mix, who was high spirited. Rita was the first person to be able to walk him without a leash,( in a place where it was safe to do so, of course; I lived in the country) and still be the one in control. It's like he could sense what she expected of him, and he was happy to obey her. I can also testify, as others have before me, to the treatment of her own. One could only hope to live such a life. She truly goes above and beyond for them. I can attest, she will do the same for you & yours. (Collapse)

My Husband and I have known Gina(Rita) for several years - What always struck us was her amazing and heartfelt connection with - not only our dog (Jack) but with animals all around her- She is compassionate and knowledgable in a way - many people are not - Gina's commitment to care for animals is remarkable - she would be an excellent caretaker and friend to any pet she cares for- We would never hesitate to recommend her and would be confident that the care and play(!) she provided would only be excellent- Andrea & Jon Kehe (Collapse)

Hi! I first met Gina over four years ago when we both lived in Tahoe. I knew from the first moment we met that I had found a fellow dog and animal lover. Gina and her lab Miah fit right in with my two rescue dogs Lobo and Leia...and that is saying ALOT! Lobo is a great pyrenees who was severely abused and super shy and Leia is a german shepherd wolf dog with her own special set of issue; needless to say I don't trust their care to just anyone and right from the get go they LOVED Gina and welcomed her into our "pack". I have to admit that I have given up going on some vacations because I felt I couldn't leave Lobo and Leia in a boarding facility or even at a friend's house because they have such unique needs. That being said, I am so proud of Gina for getting her pet sitting services up and going because this is Gina's "calling". I would trust Gina with my most precious family members and anyone who has the opportunity to use her services, whether it be boarding, in home visits, or just doggie day care, should know that their fur kids are being taken care of by someone who has a true gift relating to animals and is obsessive about the care any fur kid receives under her watch. Please know that if your fur kid has the opportunity to spend some time with Gina they will be pampered, cared for, and treated as one of her own! She is an amazing human being and the animal world is lucky to have such wonderful and gentle soul dedicating her life to their well being and care. Lobo and Leia Buns miss their Auntie Rita!!! Gina and I have a long time relationship, not only as friends but someone I would trust with the things closest to me. She loves life and has a big heart. I've seen her take in rescues who some might think is a challenge, but she wouldn't think twice about it. A person like that has extreme patience and a loving nature. All animals love Gina and she is so good with them. She enforces discipline when needed and acts as a mother to them, earning their trust and respect. When given a job, it becomes her mission to give the best care that you can not find at any pet stay. She has cared for my pets when I needed it and if I needed someone to watch after them again, I would not think twice on who to call. I know that they are safe and getting the attention as if I was home. Gina gets a 6 star rating from me on a scale of 1 to 5. -Sarah (Collapse)

I can't think of a better person to watch my pups. I have family and friends in town but know that Big Nose Kate (Katie) is in more lovable and caring hands when she's with her aunt Gina. Wyatt my second rescue has turned out to be a bit of a handful although super sweet and Gina knew just how to handle him. Her patience and love for animals is like none I've ever seen. She is a kind soul and I'm happy to have found someone that I know will love and hike my dogs when I'm out of town. Please feel free to contact me if you would like any references. Gina has also helped us with personal/office errands and cleaning, and is a sweet Georgia peach :) (Collapse)
