About this sitter: I'm a mature, active, responsible dog lover who decided back in 2005 to take a job as a dog walker. Well, I liked it so much, I decided to start my own business, and I did really well! The only hitch was the economy melt-down in 2008, and some dog owners who loved my service never-the-less decided to economize, and eventually, at the end of 2010, I had to make my income some other way. BUT! I miss the dogs so much that when I found this web site, Rover.com, I said - I gotta give this a try! You see, I never had kids, and really other folk's dogs become the recipients of my love and nurturing. So for my own happiness, too, I care for dogs! It's a great win-win situation! Then and now- care, knowledge, professionalism, and punctuality- are the foundation of the service I provide for you and your dog! ****NOTE****: Dog owners for my dog care generally have communicated via this web site too late for me to accommodate them to take care of their dogs ****PLEASE**** contact me at least 5 to 7 days BEFORE your service need! THANK YOU! Leslie :)

Information Leslie S. would like to know about your pet

I need to know the following: 1- walks/how much exercise: how many walks a day, how intense & how long is the exercise, 2- feeding: how many times a day, what times of day, how much per feeding, any snacks, any feeding particulars, 3- rest: habitual rest times, sleep times, 4- barking: what provokes barking, how much does the dog bark, 5-commands/is the dog obedient: respond to any commands/need any commands for his/her behavior, 6- disposition: what kind of personality does the dog have, 7- public behavior: how does the dog behave in the streets, with strange dogs, with people, children, with traffic/crossing street, with noises, in the park, off-leash, on leash, chasing anything, anything notable, 8- what is the health of the dog, any conditions, special needs

A typical day

Time I'll spend with your dog It depends on the dog entirely - what his or her needs are: - ENERGY: exercise, including running, if a high energy dog, down to a simple walk that would be rather short if the dog is older or differently abled, or just the breed. Some require less exercise, and that is not necessarily based on size. For instance, the Bernese Mountain dog that I had didn't need a substantial amount of exercise despite the fact that he's a big dog. - SOCIALIZATION & INTERACTION: What his "owners"/people, have led him or her to expect from humans - then I would follow suit, and be sure to interact to that level of expectation that the dog has been accustomed to, inside: petting, talking to, feeding, playing fetch inside my large apt., spending time in the same room together, or outside: playing with other dogs, walking, talking to, playing fetch, exploring Central Park, or the city streets - wherever we may be. Basically, how and what the dog is accustomed to in activity - particularly as it relates to interaction with myself, other people, and other dogs, in addition to the exercise needs of the dog - that - would determine the level of activity the dog(s) and I would have, and the amount of time needed for that level, and for the days in general. I would pattern my behavior and activity according to what I'm told the dog has become accustomed to. If, on the other hand, the dog's a puppy, then I can reinforce the good habits that he/she needs to adapt to. Extra house-sitting services Yes, whatever is needed, just let me know and I'll be happy to comply!

Location

Leslie S.'s Neighborhood

Be R-E-A-L close to Central Park, on Park Avenue!

Pet care experience

My Apt. is on Park Avenue, at 97th Street - so I'm a block and a half away from Central Park! Also, if your dog has healthy legs, I live in a walk-up so Fido will get a little workout every time we come home! My building is tiny so neighbors know each other & are friendly. Now, the good thing is I have a spacious 5 room apt. (not counting the bathroom!), so if Fido is big, he'll have room to roam + play with me! Your pooch will be happy on Park, at 97th!

Leslie is great! She was so patient and gentle with Astro. Astro was just shortly rescued from a shelter when Leslie came to help for almost a month when I had to be on a long business trip. Astro was still adjusting to his new life, and Leslie was able to work patiently with Astro. By the time I returned, Astro was walking better on leash and was more confident when left alone at home. Leslie was also good in observing the things that Astro liked during their walks and advocate on his behave to make sure that I would keep doing it to make Astro happy. She also wrote detailed diaries to report their walks and funny anecdotes. When time came for Astro to say good bye to Leslie, he was not happy at all. But Leslie is always welcome to drop by to say hello to Astro, and I am sure Astro will be thrilled to see his buddy again!

Leslie was really great with Gala and went out of her way to assure that she had a good time near my apartment. She discovered new parks and spots for her. I felt very safe leaving Gala with her because of her thoroughness and level of care she showed. I will definitely use Leslie again!

Leslie was amazing. From day-one, she was kind, considerate, thorough. She's a true dog-lover. I had a last-minute stay needed and actually I returned late on top of it--Leslie was accommodating, easy to reach, and the best part of all: her updates were incredible! Every day I looked forward to these incredibly well-written, super-observant and insightful write-ups. I think I actually learned more about my dog through her emails! This is the best deal in the city. I will keep coming to Leslie. Cosmo clearly adored her!
