The next best thing to you...

Pet care experience

These are the types of dogs I like: the big ones, the small ones, the shaggy jumpy muddy ones, the bouncy boxers, the cheeky chihuahuas… I love the friendly dogs, and the slightly standoffish till they know you dogs, the sporting breeds, the hunting kind, the labs, pugs, terriers, or funny looking mixed up kind. ... I've actually never met a dog I didn't like. . . While I love all dogs, I have a special fondness for the naughty dog - as well as the elderly, cranky, neurotic, and the special needs dog. Whether it's an affinity for the misunderstood, or the knowledge that - behind that guilty expression - is an extraordinary new friend, I tend to attract the dogs who need a little extra care. (or maybe they attract me?) Every dog has his own wacky quirks and unique disposition -- that's part of what makes him special. I know every pet is different -- with specific needs, challenges, and issues. I've had years of experience with multiple breeds of dogs and other pets -- as well as with many different medical and behavioral issues . I see every animal as a unique individual and fine tune each experience to the specifications of you and your pet. When you can't be there I promise to be the next best thing. Some of the things I offer: *Lots of attention from a caring experienced pet sitter . . . in your home or mine. *Daily walks around the neighborhood, in a nearby park, or one of the many hiking trails around the city. I've lived in Portland with dogs for over 20 years . NOT deterred by rain. *Optional healthy homemade meals and treats. Allergies? Picky eater? dieting? No problem. I'm happy to create a dining experience to your specifications. *Movie nights curled up on the couch (or in a bed at my feet if they'd prefer). Free massages included. *Valet services - If dogs were automotive engineers, they'd probably design a van like mine. Picking up, dropping off of pets and their supplies available for a modest fee. *baths, medication, etc. by request. * Flexible, accommodating schedule. I am self employed and make my own hours. Fido needs his medication at 2pm sharp? I'll be there. *Knowledge of positive reinforcement training techniques. * Licensed and insured - member of pet sitters associates I come with years of experience, great references, and lots of love for your pet. I've personally owned 11 breeds of dogs and have watched many more. In addition I've had cats, birds, rodents, reptiles, spiders, and occasional short term injured wildlife. I am very knowledgeable about animals and have experience with a wide range of behavioral and medical issues. I also worked as an in home caregiver for 7 years and have always treated the homes and families with utmost commitment and respect. Why I love dog sitting I've been an animal lover my entire life - always bringing home strays or finding injured wildlife. My own pets growing up - whether they were dogs, gerbils, or spider. ( I had a pet tarantula) were like family members and were a hugely important part of my childhood. Though I love all animals, I feel dogs have always been the best compliment to my personality. One of my first was a rescued golden retriever mix with epilepsy. It was both one of the most rewarding and heartbreaking experiences of my life. Meet my pets We have 2 friendly, medium sized dogs - a pointer mix and a brittany spaniel. About my yard I have a fully fenced, woody, urban sized yard with space to run, dig, lay in the sun, or watch squirrels. Though the majority of the fence is 6' high, some gate portions are lower. Outdoor play is supervised to quell concerns about escaping. All of the vegetation is non toxic and pet safe. My experience administering medication I tend to attract animals with special needs (or maybe they attract me?). I've had experience administering oral, eye, nose, injections, and topical medications to pets of varying temperament. Also comfortable with wound and post surgical care and first aid.

AMAZING! Kendra was very responsive to all of our communications. Our two dogs had a great time and I did not worry one bit on our vacation! What a peace of mind knowing that they were in a loving home with a huge backyard! We will never use anyone else!

Information Kendra B. would like to know about your pet

I like all breeds and have experience with many of them. I have a short questionnaire to go over prior to watching any dog. Am always happy to meet beforehand to ease any worries and ensure it's a good fit.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks There's a park right across the street, or maybe he'd rather take a stroll through downtown Kenton to see the sights? Perhaps stop for a dog cookie? For the skittish or less outgoing dogs we can walk through the quieter neighborhood streets. There's a fenced in dog park 5 minutes away that's also an option - though usually reserved for dogs who I've watched previously and temperaments I know well. Your dog's sleeping arrangement your dog (or you) can choose. I have multiple pet beds, couches, and other comfy areas available. Or you can bring your own bed or crate. They can choose to sleep near the rest of the family or in their own secluded room if they prefer. Time I'll spend with your dog I'm self employed and work mostly from home, with the exception of 3 -4 hours midday. My husband is generally home the times I am not, so visiting pets don't tend to be left alone long. Depending on your pets personality and needs, he can choose to be at our side the entire time, play by himself or with the other dogs, or spend quiet time in a secluded room or his own crate. Every dog is different so routines and interactions will be based on the specific needs of the dog. Time I'll spend with your dog Will depend on exact situation and agreement, An overnight stay generally includes evening through morning with a mid-day visit/walk. I'm often able to be flexible to ensure that your pets routine is disrupted as little as possible, and that he's happy, safe, and cared for while you're gone.
