Home Is Where the Dog Is!

Pet care experience

We are a fun, dog-loving couple who will give your pup love and keep them safe while you are out of town. We have 2 dogs of our own - a 5 year old Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix who we have raised from a 6 week old puppy, and a 4 year old Pit bull that we rescued from the MDSPCA a year and a half ago. They are both very well trained, and love other dogs. If your dog is a cuddler, our pittie girl will snuggle with them all day. If they are full of energy, our rottie boy will run laps around the big fenced in yard all day. We have been dog sitting for years, and had to have our dogs sat while we were out of town. We understand the stress of having you put your babies in someone else's care, and want to minimize that as much as possible. We are a cat and kid-free home, so as long as your dog gets along with other dogs, we should be just fine. About this sitter: I am a dog-lover, hoping to ease some of the stress of having to leave your babies behind when you go out of town. Why I love dog sitting I grew up in an animal loving family. Most of my family works in the horse industry, and we lived on a farm for many years. We always had at least 2 family dogs, and they were usually big dogs (a husky, a lab, 2 greyhounds). Now that I have my own dogs, I've stayed with the bigger breeds (a rottie mix and a pitbull). I'm not afraid of any size dog, and I'm very calm and fair in my approach with animals. I love them all, but I also know that they need boundaries, just like people do. My dogs are my babies, and they are totally spoiled, but they are not rotten. They have rules and get rewarded for following them. I will maintain any rules you have for your dog while they stay with me. I know it is important that your dog is happy while you are gone, but there is nothing worse than having to reteach behaviors when you get back. Meet my pets We have a large yard that is completely fenced in with a 6 foot privacy fence. The dogs will be given lots of time to run free and play, but will not be left unsupervised. We have lots of tile and hardwood for puppies who are being housebroken. We are always working on obedience, and teaching our dogs new tricks, and would be happy to do the same with your's. There are no other animals or children in our house, so you don't have to worry about that if you dog is a chaser or doesn't appreciate being poked in the eye. My husband and I both work 40 hours a week, outside of the home. We are usually gone for about 8 hours at a time during the day, but I can come home on my lunch break if your pup can't wait that long. Our dogs are crate trained, so there will not be any interaction while no one is home. About my yard We live on a quarter of an acre, and it is completely fenced in with a 6 foot privacy fence. We keep the gates to the fence locked. It is very open and flat. Just about all grass, with 3 large trees for shade. Your dog will enjoy running laps or sunbathing. My experience administering medication I have been administering medications to horses and dogs my whole life. I just don't do injections. I have owned and dog sat for a few dogs undergoing cancer treatments, so I understand having to give lots of medications.

Kelly was awesome. She had my baby (Germen Shepard / husky mix) for 9 Days. She kept me updated about her stay while also uploading photos of her. She made EPI feel at home! EPI slepted with them at night. Kelly has 2 dogs that are extremely nice. It was nice that EPI had 2 playmates while we were away. Kelly has a beautiful backyard. Huge and fenced in, great for dogs to run around and play.

Both of our dogs were well taken care of. They were able to spend a lot of time playing outside in the large fenced-in back yard and both seemed healthy and happy when I picked them up. I would recommend this sitter for anybody who wants to make sure their dogs are taken care of by dog-lovers while they are away.

I really dislike having to leave my Chloe for long periods of time, and I am very hesitant when deciding on who to get to look over her while I am away. After having a meet and greet with Kelly, I felt very comfortable that Chloe would have lots of room to play and would be able to stay in a normal household without being in a kennel all day. Chloe stayed with Kelly for 7 days. When I picked Chloe up from her stay, she was very happy and tired (which is always a great thing...lol). Kelly was very attentive with any questions that I had and she even sent me pictures throughout Chloe's stay (One of the pictures with her dog Freya was incredibly hilarious and cute...lol). It was also very nice that Chloe got along so well with Kelly's two furbabies and had playmates during her stay. I highly recommend Kelly to anyone who may need a great sitter. You definitely will have peace of mind and a sense that your furbaby is being taken well care of when they cannot be with you. :)

I am open to any breed. I have a very special place in my heart for pit bulls, so they are definitely welcome. Big dogs don't scare me or my dogs, and my pit loves little dogs! The only thing I ask is that they not be dog aggressive. Let me know if you have any restrictions (i.e. not allowed on the furniture, or special dietary needs), and I will make sure they are adhered to.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks We generally don't walk our dogs too much, since they run in the backyard all afternoon. If your dog prefers to walk, we can go to the park down the road. We do take our dogs hiking and biking a lot on the weekends, so if your dog can handle a lot of activity, we will take them along. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Our dogs are crate trained, so they sleep in their crates. If you dog is crate trained, just bring it with you, and we'll set it up. If not, just let us know where they usually sleep, and we'll try our best to match it. We would prefer if you bring their own bed or favorite toy, if they have one, just so they have a piece of home. If not, we have plenty. Time I'll spend with your dog We actively spend time with our dogs when we are home. They truly are members of our family. Whether it's playing outside, or watching tv on the couch. They are with us the whole time. My husband and I both work out of the house, but our hours are not the same. We could be gone for up to 7 hours at a time, but I can come home on my lunch break if we are dog sitting. We rarely go out on weeknights, so someone will be home with them from about 3pm on. On the weekends, if we go somewhere, it is usually dog-friendly and we take them with us. If they can't go with us, we're never gone for more than a few hours. If we have a busy weekend planned, I simply won't be available to sit. I don't like leaving the dogs for too long.
