Become one of the pack!

Pet care experience

My name is Kathryn and I’ve been a freelance dog walker and pet sitter for over 5 years. I have welcomed pitbulls, mastiffs, beagles, and assorted other dogs in my home for stays of only a few days to over a months’ time. I love dogs and grew up in an animal friendly home that welcomed all animals of various shapes and sizes. And now as a young professional I intend on taking this love and respect for animals and turning it into a career. When dogs stay at my home they assimilate into my pack. They go on long walks (depending on the weather and health of the dog, walks can last for half an hour to two-hour hikes in the park) they play with other dogs (if they are socialized) and they enjoy all the benefits of being in a calm stable home. As a dog walker I’ve studied dog behavior and training methodologies and I also bring this to the table, aiding dogs with various issues such as anxiety, and fear aggression. I’ve helped dogs become more socialized, have housebroken young puppies, and have broken negative behaviors such as anxious chewing and eating food from the ground. I truly love what I do, and I hope that your dog will come stay at my home some time. About this sitter: I’m a 24-year-old dog walker and sitter who happens to also be an aspiring writer. I have been published by small time online publications and I’m in the process of finishing the first draft of my novel. When not writing in the wee hours of the night I’m walking, running, and training dogs (mine as well as others), helping out my family, and running (one must keep fit to handle a pack of dogs). I love comic books, anime, and Korean pop music. Why I love dog sitting I’ve been a dog lover my whole life as my home was very animal friendly. I had my first dog when I was only 5-years-old. Sasha was a great and lovable black lab who was rescued after being found abused in North Carolina. Sasha led a very fulfilling life with me and my family, but she sadly passed when I was only 11 due to complications from her former abuse. My next dog, Kitty, was an awesome all black shepherd who was rescued by North Shore Animal Hospital. She was a spirited and loving dog who would protect her family to the end. However, she was diagnosed with cancer and died in late 2010. I now have my dogs Moxie and Ben, and they are truly amazing dogs. Besides dogs I personally own, I began walking and taking care of neighborhood pets when I was as young as 13. As I got older I realized that I wanted to do this full time, and took on more permanent clients. Aside from walking and pet sitting, I have volunteered and donated to various causes, worked with aggressive and abused dogs, and have learned quite a bit about man’s best friend. Meet my pets I currently have a very friendly and sociable basenji/pitbull mix named Moxie. I consider her to be my right hand gal as she helps to balance out my pack. I also have a three-month-old German shepherd puppy named Ben. Ben has all his shots and has been socialized. He's shaping up to be the third pack leader between me and Moxie. About my yard I live in a very nice area and behind my apartment lies a large enclosed grass area. There is also three large parks around my home as well that I like to take the dogs to. My experience administering medication As a pet owner who had a sick dog and as a professional who has given medicine numerous times, I am quite fine with administering anything that would be needed.

I love Kathryn! Professional, informative, flexible, friendly and all around person you'd definitely want around your pup. She has so much advice from her own experiences and is very enthusiastic to help. You won't regret booking her to care for your dogs!

Kathryn was great with 13 year old senior foster bulldog. He has been sick but she was very patient with him. Knew to take small breaks during their walks and always made sure he drank enough water and sent me pictures. Kathryn answers quickly and follows your exact instructions. Will definitely hire again for any of my future foster pups.

My prayers were answered when I found Kathryn on Rover. I'm not even exaggerating. I have a difficult dog - socially aggressive, high prey drive, anxious and fearful. Makes for not very pleasant walks. My mother usually watches Brooke when we go away, but she was coming along and I had a mini heart attack. Who would be able to understand, commit and handle my dog for a whole week? I found Kathryn and we talked, she assured me she could handle Brooke and that she was very experienced with all kinds of dogs, even aggressive ones. Holy cow, she's my angel! Brooke took a liking to her right away and needless to say, the week went off perfectly! Kathryn sent me pics of my "crazy" dog running and playing. I honestly think Kathryn has a gift when it comes to animals - along with her many other talents, she is truly amazing. I will only hire Kathryn from now on and I can finally be at peace while away. Don't ask yourself any questions - she is the one!

Information Kathryn D. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed prejudice and I accept all dogs into my home, warranting extreme aggression. By extreme aggression I refer to dogs that are not socialized and attack other dogs. I train and walk such dogs, but I would not want to board the dog until I had a decent amount of training with him/her. I don’t mind food aggression or anxiety as these are issues I can mostly correct or work with.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks I take the dogs on runs around my neighborhood or in the nearby baseball field/park. I also take them, if the weather permits, to Alley Pond, where we go hiking and spend a nice morning or early afternoon. Your dog's sleeping arrangement When dogs stay at my home it is not unusual for me to have up to three dogs on the edge of my queen size bed (there’s hardly any space for me when the mastiff Jack comes over), but dogs also have beds that their parents bring which I leave in my room or in the living room. If a dog does not come with a bed, I have various spare beds and blankets that I keep for them to rest on. Some dogs also have crates that they are more comfortable sleeping in which I make space for either in my room or in the hall near my room. Time I'll spend with your dog When dogs stay in my home they don’t lay around all day. I like to engage dogs physically and mentally, and I believe in the mentality of exercise-discipline-affection. I typically take my dogs for an hour or so run in the morning, in the afternoons we go outside and play for a few hours either at the park or in the enclosed grass space behind my home. We play fetch, Frisbee, I engage in some training, and the dogs play together as well. After that we go on a short 30-min walk. In the evening we go for another long walk and I allow the dogs to play again for a while before heading inside for bed.
