My name is Kat, but I love dogs!

Pet care experience

I'm currently a graduate student at GWU. I work from home, and usually spend most time alone. That's why I'm trying to break up the monotony with Rover! I figured having a furry friend or two around occasionally would brighten the place up! Plus, regular walks are a great way to boot my butt out the house. I'm from LA originally and have a dog (a small shitzu named Coco) back home. Legend has it that Shitzus, since they were so good and wise, used to guard Buddhist temples. I guess that's why Coco got a gray beard and mustache at an early age... I really miss him, but until I have enough income to spare for a dog of my own, I guess hanging out with other people's furry friends will do. :) As I said, I work from home and am home most of the day, every day of the week. The only times I'm not here are for my classes, but those are only twice a week for a few hours. :-) I'm accustomed to walking my dog twice a day, but if your dog needs more exercise/walks, I have no problem accommodating, particularly on weekends, when I can take your dog to dog parks, the mall, and other fun places! I love all animals and would love to take care of your pet(s)! I'm a kind, friendly person, and very reliable. I'll be sure to send you regular text updates with pics and other info. so you'll never have to worry about your friend or wonder what he/she is up to (don't worry--I'll keep them out of trouble!) Also, I'm more than willing to service any pets living in my area. I can come feed/play with your dog or cat (yes, I do like cats as well--how could I not, given my name?) if you live nearby. Also, I can walk your dog(s) if you live within 1-2 metro stops of me (Columbia Heights). Shoot me a message anytime. I'll try to respond promptly, within half a day or so. I'm online most of the time, so I'll likely see your message right away.

I was very happy with Kat and so was Matty. She kept me up to date on his activities. I love ROVER for last minute dog sitting.

I've known Kat since she was just about 10 years old. I can't comment on her new place in D.C., but she often took care of our two yorkies back in Los Angeles. When she comes home from school to visit, for holidays and such, she also occasionally offers to dog-sit them, and we definitely take her up on it! This past Christmas, for example, my wife and I went on holiday for the first time, and we felt safe leaving Salt and Pepper with Kat. We appreciate the regular updates (usually via text, but we were abroad, so email was the way to go!). Our dogs love her. She's a right old hand with pups, it seems. Kat is a very nice girl who's done this for a few years. I highly recommend her for your dogs! It's important to have someone you can trust. I wish her the best of luck sitting in D.C.! Best, Bill Peterson

Kat did an excellent job taking care of Wrigley, our puppy mutt, for the weekend, as it was my best friend's wedding in North Carolina. Wrigley, as a puppy with a very energetic personality to boot, can get quite hyper. He needs regular walks and exercise to wear him out enough so that he quiets down! We requested that Kat walk Wrigley at least twice a day and try to take him out a few times over the weekend, as well. She did so, and sent us text updates throughout, including pictures of Wrigley in the nearby park. Kat is friendly and very reliable. I'll definitely be using her service again for whatever other weddings or events come up! -Katherine

Why I love dog sitting I have been a dog owner since age 9. My mother brought a chocolate labrador puppy back from Russia (my uncle breeds them), since I had been begging for a puppy for ages. Unfortunately, he passed away. Still, I learned a lot about how to care for dogs from him. He grew quickly, as most labs do, and was soon a bit over my size at the time! It took me a while to get accustomed to the responsibilities associated with a dog, particularly the walking them regularly bit (again, he was my size, so it got a bit hard when he chased after a squirrel!). After he died, my dad surprised me with Coco on my birthday. He was the cutest little puppy you could imagine, scarcely the size of a teacup. I wish I could have kept him like that forever, but he's cute as a quasi-grandpa too!

What size they are, temperament, food preferences, anything I need to know whilst walking them (ex: are they afraid of birds, squirrels, how do they get along with other dogs, with people, etc.). Also, I need to know their cuddling M.O. Belly rubs? Butt rubs? Behind the ears? None of the above? This is very important to quality movie nights.

The apartment has hardwood floors and is about 800 sq. ft. of space, which is pretty decent for an apartment not in the suburbs. While I don't have a patio/backyard area of my own, the neighborhood is very quaint and very dog friendly. There's lots of greenery around here and plenty of parks nearby for canine interaction.
