Pet care biz owner/lover for hire!

Pet care experience

Jennifer Merritt is the founder and owner of Poopanators, a pet care services company based in Erie, Colorado. Originally from Chicago, Jen has a background as a PI within different realms of the legal industry including animal and nursing home care investigations. While working in the business field, she also enjoyed volunteering at local animal shelters, nursing homes with pets housed with their elderly family members, and within shelters where she cared for abandoned and abused animals. In 2006, she decided to follow her passion for helping animals and their owners and formed Poopanators, LLC. The business began with a focus on helping local neighbors scoop poop out of their yards and cleaning up the parks and recreation areas within the community. As the business evolved, the primary focus became pet sitting while clients were on vacation or away from their animals for extended periods of time. With a desire to grow the business, Jen expanded from the southern suburbs to the city of Chicago and focused on the needs of dog walking within the community. Client relationships quickly grew, allowing for Jen to hire a handful of employees to assist her in a mission to provide quality pet care services while keeping the community clean and safe. After 14 years of operating successfully in the Chicagoland area, Jen relocated her family and business to Colorado in 2020 and is bringing her proven Poopanators brand to Erie, Colorado and surrounding areas. Jen earned a B.A. in Business from Robert Morris College. Additionally, she provides consulting services to small business entrepreneurs in the pet care industry. Professional Certifications & Insurance: Certifications: Cat & Dog CPR and First Aid Certification, ProPetHero Simple Solutions for Common Dog Behavior & Training Problems, Udemy Academy Dog Training & Ecollar - How to Work With Aggressive Dogs, Udemy Academy Sirius dog training by Ian Dunbar-puppy,adult and special needs.-currently For more information search poopanators for more customer testimonies. Hi y’all- if you’re looking for someone to be the person you turn to for ALL of your dogs needs Jen is your gal! I first met Jen back in January through a hiking group and with us both being transplants from the Upper Midwest- there was an instant connection, but she forever is in my heart by the way she won my dogs over instantly and has become Aunt Jen! I have two very high energy dogs and they require work and she has been wonderful with them and very patient with me! for let’s be real, it’s the hooman that needs the most work when it comes to dog training! 😆 Anyways- I can’t say enough good things about Jen and her skills with my boys, so give her a call; your first babies will love you for it!

I have been using Jennifer's dogwalking services for about 2 years and I'm so happy to have found her! It is apparent how much of a dog lover she is and she is also knowledgeable about training. She has always proven to be responsible and reliable and it is nice to not worry about my dog being cared for in a loving, responsible way. I really appreciate the texts after she walks my dog so it lets me know when he is walked and also how he did that day. Also, my work schedule changes day to day and week to week so I don't need my dog walked every day or the same days every week and I love that I don't have to have a set schedule with her. The bigger dog walking companies demand that you have your dog walked a minimum number of days/week and since I don't need that it would be a waste of money. It is also great that since it is just her I don't have to worry about dog walkers leaving/changing which I know is often a complaint with the bigger dog walking companies. Highly recommend her!

Jennifer has been watching our 4-month old puppy for a couple of months now and we're so happy to have her! She treats every dog as if it were her own so we feel very safe and comfortable knowing our little guy is in her hands. She even sends a text updates with pics after every walk so we can know how our pup did that day. She also works on basic training routines which is also a great help.

Jennifer has been watching my little Lhasa Aspso princess for around 7 months now and I couldn't be happier with her. I'm normally not comfortable leaving my baby at all, but knowing Jennifer is watching her leaves me feeling confident my princess is in good hands. Jennifer comes to my house, walks my princess twice daily, feeds her and makes sure she had enough fresh water, and spends extra time playing with her while I'm away. Every time I return home to a happy and healthy puppy.

For each client we review each time a new booking is requested to be sure the pet health and behavior has not changed. It is important to be sure when visiting with any pet within the comforts of their own home they feel safe. We spend time loving on your pet by welcoming them with our soft voices and if they allow a petting happy session, soothing them while leashing them for their walks, letting them enjoy sniffing things on their walk but also focus on doing business outside of their home and disposing of the dog poop in receptacle within the area or our clients trash can, upon back from any outside time always a fresh clean bowl of water will be provided and a treat if client allows, and always snuggles or play time whichever the pet prefers. We do not ever put any pet in expected positions such as holding if not preferred, being picked up and snuggled or bothered in their safe space. New clients we give the space and time to get to know our voices and smells to warm up to us as many cat clients it takes time for most cats to trust anyone new in their home, some dogs too and with that we want your pet to feel safe and begin a trusting relationship with the caregiver. Before leaving all doors and gates and windows are checked to be sure no possiblity of escaping while client is away or between sitter visits. Lights may be rotated and newspaper brought in to make the home look secured and lived in vs on vacation with no activity.
