Loving Home Away from Home

Pet care experience

* I AM NOT ABLE TO OFFER LONG-TERM DAY-CARE. * ALL GUEST DOGS MUST BE VERY GENTLE WITH OTHER SMALL DOGS. * FOR THE HEALTH AND HAPPINESS OF ALL CONCERNED, GUEST DOGS MUST BE UP TO DATE WITH ORAL FLEA TREATMENTS, WORMINGS AND VACCINES. * I AM NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT PIT BULLS OR PIT BULL CROSSES. I am a life-long dog lover, non-smoker, non-drinker. I work from home and enjoy having canine guests to stay. I love to go on walks at the beach and around the parks so if you have a dog who likes to be active, they'll get plenty of exercise. Every day I go for a 90 minute walk in the morning (or for older ones or less active dogs I can shorten it and/or go slow) and a second half hour walk in the evening. I have a big garden with sun and shade. During the day everyone is free to be inside or outside (invariably everyone likes to stay together in pack wherever I go!) If they prefer to be couch potatoes, I have plenty of couches and comfortable chairs for them. I take lots of mini-breaks through the day in the garden to get a stretch or play some fetch in the garden. Your dog will be lavished with love and attention. I have two six pound, nine year old Papillons who are very gentle and are used to having doggy guests come to stay. I only take two guest dogs at a time to make sure everyone gets lots of individual attention and love throughout the stay. * THANK YOU! Why I love dog sitting Ever since I was a small child, whenever I see a dog I light up inside. I love them all! My mother gave me my first dog when I was nine. I've had dogs ever since, typically border collies and rescues, and now two Papillons. Meet my pets I have two, 5 pound, 7year old, female Papillons. I do take care of larger dogs. But, to keep everyone safe and considering size/weight differences, I CAN ONLY TAKE GUESTS WHO DO NOT PLAY ROUGH OR ARE IN ANY WAY AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS OTHER DOGS OR PEOPLE. Thank you! About my yard I have a large, fenced backyard, with grass, shade and sun and plenty of room to run, play and explore. My experience administering medication Yes. I have taken care of older dogs frequently and all of my dogs in life have lived long lives. So I am comfortable giving pills or administering drops.

Our dogs loved staying with Hillary! I knew that they were being very welll cared for because Hillary sent me lovely videos of the dogs each day where she told me how they were doing and what they were going to do that day. One my dogs needed to take pills because she gets very itchy, and Hillary discovered while they were there that my dog's allergies came from her food and gave us new recomendations for dog food. The dogs got tons of exercise and outside time, her house is dog friendly, and her two dogs were friendly and played well with my dogs. She did a great job and I could not have asked for better!

This was Oreo's first time with Hilary, and we couldn't be happier. She is very conscientious and thorough with instructions and any behavioral issues to help reduce the risk of any incidents while we were away. I immediately felt Oreo was in very good hands, and the daily pictures were just more proof that Oreo felt very confident and at ease in his home away from home. I would highly recommend Hilary to future clients.

Could not have asked for a better experience with Hilary. My wife and I had to make a last-minute trip to LA for the weekend and didn't know where to turn at first for a dog sitter. Our neighbors were out of town and Maggie (our westie) usually gets very stressed out in pet hotels. Luckily, we found Hilary on Rover! She was great - offered to meet Maggie that day. She (and her Pomeranian) got along with Maggie wonderfully from the start so I knew this was going to be a good fit. Hilary went out of her way to give us periodic updates throughout the weekend on how Maggie was doing. She took her on long walks with her dogs, and I could really tell when we came back that Maggie really enjoyed her stay (and was not stressed in the slightest). Would ask Hilary to take care of Maggie again in a heartbeat! Definitely our go-to from now on.

Hilary provided a loving home for Athena while we were away. She gave her lots of walks and attention. She sent tons of videos and pictures and we enjoyed seeing Athena have a good time while we were out of town. She was easy to contact and flexible when our flight was delayed too. Thanks Hilary!

Information Hilary S. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know if there are any special food requirements or medications, or any special requests. I'd like to know as much about your dog's likes and dislikes so that as much as possible, their routine stays the same as when they're at their regular home and so they feel right at home when they're with me.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks I usually do a longer walk (hour to 90 minutes) in the morning and a shorter one (half-hour) in the early evening. I often go to Stanford campus, local parks, and the beach at Half Moon Bay (with owner approval). All through the day we take breaks for playing and ball-chasing. Of course if you have a puppy, a senior, less active or disabled dog, exercise is customized to be appropriate and safe. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Your dog will sleep wherever he or she would like. They are welcome everywhere. Typically, everyone sleeps on my bed or on comfy pillows and beds nearby. I don't use crates unless the owner has a special request to do so at night. Time I'll spend with your dog I am working on my research and writing from home so I'm with your dog all day every day. I only take two guest dogs at a time to ensure that everyone gets lots of individual attention throughout the day.
